Improvisation of Painting Supports: Sustaining the Creative Place of the Calabash
Abstract
The paper addresses Nigerian painters' reliance on ready-made supports by introducing the calabash as an alternative painting support. It highlights materials, methods, techniques, and themes, demonstrating the calabash's potential in chromatic expressions. The study concludes that calabash supports can stimulate practical experimentation in modern painting while encouraging budding painters to explore diverse improvisations.
