Lean Supply Chain and Vendor Managed Inventory Systems Nexus in Supply Chain Management Organizations – A Review
Abstract
This paper serves as a framework to expand the cognitive horizons of professionals across various domains of supply chain operations. An objective was to assess the influence of lean supply chain principles and Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) in achieving quality, timely delivery, and locational efficiencies by manufacturing entities. Using documentary research methodology analyzing secondary literature, the study determined that lean principles prioritize quality assurance, cost efficiency, and waste minimization, while VMI focuses on intelligent operations, inventory reduction, and sustainable vendor partnerships. The integration of Lean Supply Chain practices with VMI ensures fluid movement of materials throughout processes. The study recommends engagement of specially trained professionals to oversee these domains.
